Leonora Carrington; Andrea Schlieker (ed.) | Leonora Carrington: Paintings, drawings and sculptures 1940-1990 | Serpentine Gallery | 1991 | A serviceable copy, which has been water-damaged at its upper corner. The main area of the coloured prints is undamaged, although there is some staining in the margins of a couple of pages. The text pages are all readable although there is, again, some marginal staining which obtrudes onto the outer edge of the text on a couple of pages. The top outer corner of the front panel is rather crinkled, & there is a waterstain about an eighth of the way down the fore-edge. The ffep has adhered to the reverse of the front cover. The book is rather cocked, with the front cover set forward. A magazine article on Leonora Carrington has been loosely inserted. I am offering this book as a reading copy only, with faults as noted. | £30

Kaplan | Unexpected Journeys | Virago | 1988 | At first glance, a very good copy in unclipped jacket, but the lower edge of the boards is damp-stained, as is the reverse of the jacket, with a little damp-staining visible on the lower edge of the back panel. The page-block itself is unaffected, & the text pages & plates are in very good condition. | £60

The lower corner has been exposed to damp at some time – there is some offset obscuring text at the lower corner of the back cover, & some of the text has lifted from the very bottom corner of the internal pages. | £100

Peg Weiss | Kandinsky and Old Russia | Yale | 1995 | 9780300056471 At first glance, a very good copy in unclipped jacket, but there is a light ink smear in the lower margin of p.67, & inky fingerprints on blank areas of pp.71 & 75. Rebecca West | The Modern Rake’s Progress | Hutchinson | 1934 | First printing in unclipped jacket. The front panel of the jacket still looks impressive, despite some scuffing, a 3cm closed tear at the top edge, & some sellotape reinforcement to the lower edge. There is some loss to the edges, most notably at the top of the spine, which has been reinforced with sellotape. There is a long diagonal tear down the back panel, which has been mended with tape, with more tape reinforcement at the top & edge.There is a 7cm tear, with some loss, down the top of the fold of the back panel/back flap. Edges of boards rubbed. Plates & text pages in very good condition, with some foxing. | £75
